A study of the auditory narrative function in Song of Solomon
Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon,the author narrates with sound and gives the narrative integrity by means of the sound landscape which runs through the text or the specific events or characters singing,recording the sufferings of african-americans in America.In the novel,auditory narration plays the role of recording history,shaping characters,sorting out interpersonal relation-ships,pursuing cultural traditions and reshaping oneself,the author also endows the various sounds in the novel with rich symbolic meanings,which shows the representation of the characters'fate,the connection between music and culture,and the symbol of pursuing the good humanity.In addition,Toni Morrison also makes full use of the strategy of subtracting emotion with sound,while revealing the problems of black people's family living conditions in the American historical environment at that time,he also condenses the the author's historical consciousness and destiny consciousness,the result reflects the cultural self-confidence of african-n Black identity.
