On the Satirical Theme in the long halftime in Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk
The novel mainly tells the story of 19-year-old Texas boy Billy Lynn and his Bravo Squad soldiers, who were invited to participate in the performance of the American Football Super Bowl due to their heroic performance in the Iraq battlefield,as well as all kinds of things they experienced before and after the performance. The novel describes the protagonist's experience in Iraq War through flashbacks embedded in the halftime. This paper argues that the novel reveals the cruelty of the Iraq war,the thinking of American"war heroes",the exaggeration of American social consumption culture and the distortion of the view of love through the art of satire, and therefore, profoundly unveils the chronic diseases of the American society.
