The Maroon Heart:Revolutionary Memory,Identity Conflict and Imagination of"Left Community"
Chen Qixiu's short story collection,The Maroon Heart, draws on his own revolutionary experiences and was written af-ter the failure of the National Revolution.Unlike the"bright"ending of revolutionary literary narratives,it does not emphasize the"outlet"issue, but focuses on the complex spiritual state of intellectuals in the National Revolution. This writing presents the embar-rassing situation of the"halfway"revolutionaries, and also reveals the identity crisis of"Cross-party element"caught in a"dilem-ma".Although Chen Qixiu rewrote the"proletarian literature theory"of Kurahara Korehiko,it does not mean that his literary activities were outside the spectrum of revolutionary literature or even Left Wing Literature. The"left community"imagery in his stories connects the context of the National Revolution with the left-wing literary debates of the 1930s.
