Is Financial Literacy Education for Early Childhood Really Effective?—Evidence from a Quasi-experimental Study on 5-6 Year-old Children
Financial literacy is the crucial factor for children to adapt to and participate in socioeconomic life in the 21st century.Early financial literacy education can not only shape children's financial abilities and behaviors, moreover in the long run, influence individuals'sustainable livelihood skills, family planning and development, and even the stability of socioeconomic aspects. In order to explore the impact of financial education programs on children's financial literacy, this study adopted a quasi-experimental research method, intervening with a 3-month experiential financial literacy education project for 55 children aged 5-6 years. The results showed that children aged 5-6 years have the ability to participate in financial education activities.Compared with children in the control group, children in the experimental group who underwent the financial education project intervention showed significant improvements in overall financial literacy scores as well as scores in the dimensions of financial knowledge, skills, and attitudes. It is suggested to carry out practical research on financial literacy education in kindergartens, provide financial literacy education training for kindergartens and teachers,so as to promote the improvement of children'financial literacy, and provide empirical and practical evidence for incorporating financial literacy education into the social learning content of children.
