A Sociological Examination of School Football Research:Three Orientations and Researching Agendas
School football is both the foundation for the development of football in China,and the key pivot of the current reform of the integration of sports and education.As an educational activity that operates on school space and education system,school football has gained vigorous development in the past decade under the vigorous promotion from the country,but the work of related knowledge production and theory construction is relatively lagging behind.Theoretical shortcomings also constrain the sustainable development of practice.Based on the comprehensive social characteristics of school football,this paper starts from the perspective of sociological theories,and takes the three classic theoretical paradigms of"functionalism","hermeneuticism"and"criticalism"as the guide.In this study,the sociological research literatures on youth football in foreign countries are examined,and the academic contributions of sociological theories to the functional positioning,cultural creation and order shaping of football are presented.Based on this,the study further focuses on the local practice of school football in China,and explores how to expand the research possibilities of school football policy operation,cultural analysis and curriculum teaching based on the integration of paradigms,with a view to opening up new horizons of interdisciplinary researches on school football in education.
