A Review of the Relationship between Size and Intensity of Tropical Cyclones
This study provides a comprehensive review of statistical studies on the correlation between the size and intensity of tropical cyclones(TCs).It also briefly discusses the progress on the external and internal physical factors that affect TC size, intensity, and size-intensity relationship.Unlike previous studies that exclusively focused on either intensity or size, the relationship between size and intensity is highlighted when we review the previous research, which helps deepen the understanding of the underlying physical mechanisms that drive the overall wind field changes of TCs.It also provides scientific guidance for improving model simulation and operational forecasting and clarifies the future research directions that require further study.
