Numerical study on the mechanisms of slow-moving Typhoon"In-fa"(2106):interaction of binary typhoons with a far distance
This study employed a series of sensitivity experiments to investigate the potential mechanisms of the slow movement of Typhoon"In-fa".The findings show that the movement of Typhoon"In-fa"is influenced by the intensity of Typhoon"Nepartak".The intensity of"Nepartak"mainly affects the strength and range of the nearby large-scale low-pressure system, indirectly affecting the large-scale guiding airflow of"In-fa"and then affects its movement. In particular, the northwest wind-steering flow generated by"Nepartak"and low-pressure system partially neutralizes the southeast wind-steering flow on the southwest side of the subtropical high. This neutralization leads to the reduction in the large-scale steering flow of"In-fa",resulting in its slow movement and a complex track. Moreover, the study points out that the stronger"Nepartak"is,the greater its influences on movement of"In-fa"are.Results emphasize that interaction between distant typhoons can indirectly affect typhoon tracks by influencing the large-scale systems in its vicinity.
