Visual ethnology has been an"prominent subject"in the international anthropology and ethnology,which is a discipline representing modernity.Chinese visual ethnology has made significant progress and development,while its academic status is not equal to its contribution.So problems are still worth to study.By retrospecting the conception of contemporary visual ethnology in China,this article proposes that China has developed visual ethnology according to own actual.In hundreds of years long practicing of visual ethnology,China has developed its own distinctive practical rational cognition in the principles,functions,and roles of filming,as well as the classification,and further promoted the research and filming of visual ethnology.
