Synthesis and Anti-Bacterial Activities of Bisbenzimidazole and Bisbenzothiazole Derivatives
By condensation reactions of 2-aminobenzimidazole and benzothiazole with p-benzaldehyde and o-benzaldehyde,respectively,four new compounds with functional groups of benzimidazole and benzothiazole were obtained by reduction of sodium borohydride. Its structure was characterized by 1H NMR,13C NMR,MS,IR,elemental analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction, and its antibacterial activity was determined by 96 well plate dilution method, and their fluorescence emission spectra were tested in methanol and acetic acid solvents. The experimental results show that, except for the final product of 2-aminobenzimidazole and ortho benzaldehyde, which is 2-isoindolinebenzimidazole,all other compounds with functional groups of dibenzimidazole or benzothiazole can be obtained. These compounds have varying degrees of antibacterial activity against the tested strains within the test concentration range, and have different fluorescence emission spectra in different solvents.
