The Reform of Official Selection System in Sui Dynasty and its Influence on Literature
The Sui Dynasty was not the beginning of the imperial examination system,but the official selecting system in the Sui was the key link in the development from the recommendation and interview in the Han Dynasty to the imperial examination system in the Tang Dynasty.Both emperors Wen and Yang in Sui reformed the official selection system.Emperor Wen greatly increased the number of scholars and increased the exam subjects from two to four.By emphasizing Confucianism,a study style were formed,which indirectly promoted the formation of"MingJing",i.e.subjects of the imperial examination.Emperor Yang further refined the subjects of the Exam,increased the subjects from four to ten,and established a specialized literary examination system,which pushed a prosperous of Southern literature in the Sui,accelerated the integration of Northern and Southern literature,and provided assistance for the Tang dynasty's imperial examination system for selecting scholars through poetry and prose.
