Kloma's Illegal"Exploration"of Nansha and Negotiations between Taiwan,China and the Philippines in Manila
From March to May 1956,Kloma,a Filipino, with others illegally"explored"the Nansha Islands,trig-gering negotiations between Taiwan and the Philippines around the ownership of the Nansha Islands. The advantageous po-sition of the Taiwan authorities at the beginning of the negotiations was strengthened due to the navy's upcoming patrol in Nansha. However, influenced by Cold War thinking,it initially adopted a compromise position in negotiations with the Philippines, which also foreshadowed the final outcome of the negotiations. In addition, the coverage of the incident by domestic and foreign media, especially Hong Kong newspapers, could to some extent help restore several scenes of the negotiations.
