Textual Research on the Place Name for"Zhulu Zhikui"Seal in the Western Han Dynasty
The Western Han silver seal"Zhulu Zhikui"is now housed in the Hainan Provincial Museum. It is the empirical basis for the"Zhulu"county recorded in the Hanshu Geography Annals.Regarding the research on the location of"Zhulu"throughout history, there are two types of viewpoints:"not in Hainan"and"in Hainan".Among those who believe the county was located in Hainan, there are two sub-views:one is in Haikou, and the other is that Zhulu is Zhuya and is in Yacheng,Sanya. The research draws on the traditional methods of exegetics and concludes through multi-angle analyses from Li language, toponymy, and history that the historical place name"Zhulu"("朱 庐")or"Zhulu"("朱卢")is the phonetic transformation of the Li language for the Antiaris toxicaria Lesch. The location of"Zhulu"county is in Zhizhong Town,Ledong Li Autonomous County today.
