The study revealed the composition and feature of plant flora with respect to local wild vascular plants in Hainan based on ‘The catalogue of Hainan plant diversity’,‘An Illustrated Flora of Hainan’ and field surveys. Results showed that:(1)The vascular plants with 243 families,1 895 genera, and 6 036 species including 4 579 wild species belonged to 225 families and 1 429 genera were recorded in Hainan. There were only 483 endemic species, accounted for 10.55% of the total species;(2)The important families were Meliaceae,Fagaceae,Palmae,Dipterocarpaceae,Lauraceae,Araliaceae,Anacardiaceae, etc.in species composition of wild vascular plants in Hainan;(3)The dominant families and genera were of tropical distribution in the local wild plant flora of Hainan Island, accounting for 82.63% of the total families and 84.40% of the total genera.Besides, pantropical distribution and its sub-patterns of family as well as tropical Asia distribution and its sub-patterns of genera were dominated due to their higher proportion (57.49% and 27.09%,respectively).The feature of Hainan flora is belonging to a part of the Malaysia Subkingdom, not only character of tropic but also a common source of Southern China. The study supports that Hainan flora is a transitional flora from the tropical flora to subtropical (Southern China)flora.
