Test and Analysis on Internal Residual Stress of Linear Friction Welding Joint of TC17 Titanium Alloy
In order to understand the distribution of residual stress of linear friction welding(LFW)joint of TC17 titanium alloy, the residual stress of the TC17(α+β)/TC17(β)LFW joint was measured by contour method. The stress distributions of the joint along the vibration direction(x direction, the sample width direction)and the forging direction(y direction, the sample length direction)were analyzed. The results show that the x direction residual stress in the weld area is tensile stress, and it presents a bimodal distribution along the y direction, which means the stress of both sides of the weld is higher than that of the weld center. The tensile stress peak is at the position 2-3 mm away from the weld center, which is 360 MPa,and the width of the tensile stress area reaches 30 mm.In the cross section through the weld center, the y direction stress is tensile stress in the whole thickness direction, and the stress of the upper and lower surfaces is smaller than that of the center in the thickness direction. The stress of the area 27 mm away from the center at both sides in the sample width direction is tensile stress, and that of the edge area is compressive stress.
