Ultra thin Ni-diamond cutting tools were prepared by composite electrodeposition technology. The composition and microstructure of the cutting tools were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS).The effects of different cathode motion states on the microstructure, hardness, wear resistance and diamond particle uniformity of the cutting tools were investigated. The nickel diamond cutting tools were prepared by cathode self rotation for the first time. The results show that the cutting tools made by the cathode rotation are better than those made by cathode rotation.
