Influence of YSZ Powders on Properties of Plasma Sprayed Thermal Barrier Coatings
Thermal barrier coatings were prepared on GH5188 substrates, with NiCrAlY as bond coat, and two different types of yttria stabilized zirconia powders were used to prepare the top coat. The comprehensive performance of the two type coatings was compared by analyzing the microstructure, thermal shock resistance and thermal cycle test results. The experimental results indicate that the morphology and size distribution of the powder have significant effect on the microstructure of the plasma sprayed 8YSZ thermal barrier coatings, and the voids in the ceramic top coats improve the strain tolerance, which furtherly prolong the thermal cycle life of the coating to a certain extent. The impurities from the ceramic powders have effect on the integrity of the thermal growth oxide(TGO)layer, thus, the thermal cycle life is affected.
