The Effect of Free Trade Zones on Urban Green Total Factor Productivity
Based on the panel data of 278 prefecture-level and above cities from 2007 to 2019,this paper uses the event study method, latent factor model, synthetic DID,and generalized synthetic control to evaluate the impact of the establishment of free trade zones(FTZ)on urban green total factor productivity(GTFP),as well as the intermediate mechanisms and effect of factors such as factor allocation, technological innovation, and foreign investment. The results show that the establish-ment of free trade zones has significantly promoted the growth of urban green total factor productivity, and the promotion effect has been strengthened over time. After the decomposition of GTFP into technical efficiency and technological progress,it is found that the establishment of free trade zones has a significant role in promoting urban technical efficiency but has no significant effect on urban technological progress.Technological innovation and capital mismatch play a significant intermedi-ate role in establishing the free trade zone, but not the labor mismatch and FDI.
