Mechanism of Economic Effect Disparity of High-speed Rail:New Evidence from Industrial Structure Perspective
Based on panel data of 124 cities in China from 2001 to 2020,this paper uses a combination of difference-in-difference model(DID)and synthetic control method(SCM)to explore the mechanism of HSR's economic effects dispari-ties from the perspective of urban industrial structure.The results show that there is strong industrial structure disparity in the economic effects of HSR and the proportion of primary,secondary,and tertiary industries in cities significantly affects the economic effects of HSR.Therefore,the positive economic effect of HSR on cities with higher proportion of tertiary,seconda-ry,and primary industries gradually diminish.After further analyzing the mechanism of the industrial structure disparities from both the direct and indirect effects,the indirect economic effects brought by HSR were found to be positive or negative in different cities,which is the main reason for the industrial structure disparities in HSR's economic effects.
