Coordinated Regional Development,Total Factor Productivity, and the Difference Between Urban Center and Periphery:A Case of the Chengdu-Chongqing Coordinated Development
Difference in differences method is introduced into the stochastic frontier analysis model, and the balanced panel data of 285 prefecture-level cities in China are used to accurately evaluate the policy effects of the Chengdu-Chongqing E-conomic Zone policy on urban TFP,and mechanisms are also tested. At the same time, the center-periphery difference of the policy effects is empirically analyzed. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)The Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone policy has significantly promoted the improvement of urban TFP.(2)Enterprise agglomeration, urban innovation, and industrial innovation are channels through which the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone policy promotes TFP.(3)Al-though the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone policy has significantly promoted TFP in both the central and peripheral cities,it has had a greater impact on the central cities.(4)The Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone policy narrows the center-periphery difference of policy effects through its influences on the industrial structure and enterprise agglomeration, while expanding the difference through its impact on innovation.
