Can Digital Infrastructure Construction Make Urban Economies More Resilient:Evidence from Broadband China Pilot Policy
Taking the Broadband China pilot policy as a quasi-natural experiment in digital infrastructure construction, based on urban panel data from 2005 to 2020,this paper evaluates the policy effect of the Broadband China pilot policy on urban economic resilience using a multi-period difference in difference method. The results indicate that:(1)Digital in-frastructure construction represented by the Broadband China pilot policy can significantly promote urban economic resili-ence,and the policy effectiveness continues to enhance over time.(2)The construction of digital infrastructure represented by the Broadband China pilot policy can enhance urban economic resilience through industrial structure optimization,techno-logical innovation drive, and digital finance empowerment.(3)The promotion effect of digital infrastructure on urban econom-ic resilience is influenced by urban characteristics such as geographical location, population size, and resource endowment. The policy effects of eastern cities, large and above-sized cities, and non-resource-based cities are relatively strong.
