Firm Size and Innovation Sustainability:A Dual-regulation Based on Firmness and Flexibility
Based on dynamic capability theory, this paper examines the impact of firm size on innovation sustainability and its mechanism of action based on a panel of Chinese high-tech firms from 2017 to 2020 concerning the"firmness"of or-ganizational resilience and the"flexibility"of resource flexibility. The results show that the relationship between firm size and innovation persistence is non-linear and inverted U-shaped;at the same time, both organizational resilience and re-source flexibility play a negative role in regulating the relationship between firm size and innovation persistence,i.e.,weak-ening the inverted U-shaped relationship between firm size and innovation persistence is weakened.
