The Asymmetric Impact of Enterprise Digitalization on Total Factor Productivity:An Empirical Test Based on Quantile Regression
This paper explores the asymmetric impact of digitization on total factor productivity(TFP)and its consequences based on the quantile model framework.Firstly, quantile regression is used to empirically test the heterogeneous impact of digitalization on TFP.Secondly, span regression models, kurtosis regression models, and TFP convergence models are ap-plied to examine the impact of digitalization on the distribution characteristics of TFP among enterprises. Finally, the indus-try's TFP is decomposed to explore the economic consequences of digitalization at the industry level. The results show that(1)Digitalization has a suppressive effect on low-productivity enterprises and a promoting effect on high-productivity en-terprises.(2)Digitization hinders the convergence trend of TFP between enterprises, exacerbates the degree of dispersion of TFP between enterprises, and the role of digitization in this process is asymmetric.(3)Digitization has not brought about a significant improvement in the total factor productivity level of the industry but has significantly optimized the allocation of industry resources.
