The Impact of Renewable Energy Development on Carbon Emissions
Based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2007 to 2020,this paper empirically analyzes the impact of renewable energy development on carbon emissions. It is found that the development of renewable energy significantly re-duces carbon emissions, and the effect is more obvious in the central and western regions and regions with high environmental regulation intensity. The development of wind energy has the greatest impact on carbon emissions, followed by solar energy, and the impact of hydropower is the smallest. The mechanism test shows that renewable energy can exert a carbon emission reduction effect by optimizing the energy structure and improving energy utilization efficiency. The nonlinear effect indicates that with the deterioration of the energy structure level, the impact of renewable energy on carbon emissions shows a trend of first inhibition and then promotion. At the same time, the carbon emission reduction effect of renewable energy shows a mar-ginal decreasing trend with the decline of energy utilization efficiency.Further studies found that there is a spatial spillover effect of the impact of renewable energy development on carbon emissions.
