Does the Use of Digital Technology Contribute to the Income Growth of Flexible Workers?Based on the Perspective of the Second-stage Digital Divide
Using data from the 2016,2018,and 2020 China Family Panel Studies, this paper analyzes the impact of digital technology use on the income and income gap between flexible and formal employment groups from the perspective of the second-stage digital divide, and the possible mechanisms involved. The results show that the use of digital technology has a positive impact on the income of both groups, and the impact on formal employment is greater than that on flexible employ-ment,which widens the income gap between the two groups. As the income increases, the impact of digital technology on the income gap between the two groups gradually shifts from widening to narrowing. The mechanism analysis shows that the change in employment structure and the preference for digital technology use are the main reasons for the income gap.
