Further Analysis of the Impact of Population Aging on Residents'Consumption Level in China's Digital Economy Era
Currently,China's population structure exhibits characteristics of aging and a decline in birth rates,which has diverse impacts on residents'consumption levels.Simultaneously,with the rapid development of the Internet,the demand for the Internet among the elderly population is also growing.The aging-friendly adaptation of the Internet is also being implemented in China,which means that the consumer market will usher in new challenges and opportunities.This study aims to delve deeply into the relationship between population aging,Internet use,and residents'consumption levels,in order to provide new ideas and directions for the high-quality economic development in China under the aging trend.Based on provincial panel data from 2010 to 2022,this paper empirically analyzes the relationship between population aging,Internet use,and residents'consumption levels using a Two-way Fixed-effects Model.It finds that the aging of China's population has a significant negative impact on residents'consumption levels,and internet use has a negative moderating effect on this impact,that is,Internet use helps to alleviate the negative impact of population aging on residents'consumption level.Additionally,in the eastern and central regions,population aging has a significant negative impact on residents'consumption levels,while in the western region,such an impact is not observed.This study contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the challenges brought by population aging,providing new ideas and directions for addressing these issues.It holds significant implications for promoting sustainable economic and social development.
