Effects of Sleep Quality on Drivers'Risky Driving Behavior and Accident Risk:the Moderating Role of Sleep Chronotypes
Objective To investigate whether there is a moderating role for drivers'sleep chronotypes in the rela-tionship between sleep quality and dangerous driving behavior and accident risk. Methods 260 randomly selected drivers in Benxi City,Liaoning Province,Shangqiu City,Henan Province, and Changsha City,Hunan Province for measurement in the offline way and asked to complete PSQI,MEQ,Dangerous Driving Behavior Self-Report Scale and Accident Risk Assessment Scale in turn. Results Male drivers scored higher than female drivers on both risky driving behavior(t =-2.769,P<0.05)and accident risk(t =-2.759,P<0.05).Sleep quality was significantly and positively correlated with risky driving behaviors(r =0.27,P<0.01)and accident risk(r =0.34,P<0.01).Sleep quality and sleep chronotypes are able to predict risky driving behaviors and accident risk. For dangerous driving behavior and accident risk,as sleep quality improved, the lower scores early morning drivers got,the less dangerous behaviors they had, while there was no significant change for night drivers. Conclusion Sleep chronotypes plays a moderating role in the influence of sleep quality on risky driving behavior and accident risk.
