The Relationship between Need for Uniqueness and Non-Suicidal Self-Injury among College Students:The Full Mediating Effect of Perceived Stress
Objective To explore the effect of need for uniqueness on non-suicidal self-injury among college students,as well as investigate the mediating effect of perceived stress. Methods A total of 1259 college students were surveyed using the Need for Uniqueness Questionnaire,Perceived Stress Scale, and Self-Injury Behavior Scale. Results Correlation analysis showed that a significant positive correlation between need for uniqueness and perceived stress,non-suicidal self-injury(r=0.091,P<0.01;r=0.059,P<0.05),as well as between perceived stress and non-suicidal self-injury(r=0.113,P<0.01).Perceived stress fully mediates the impact of need for unique-ness on non-suicidal self-injury among college students. Conclusion Need for uniqueness increases non-suicidal self-injury in college students by raising perceived stress.
