Considering the displacement patterns that may occur after the fault dislocation in a cross-active fault tunnel,we de-rive the angular displacement patterns based on convex-up,"S"shape,and concave-down displacement patterns. We further deduce an estimation method for hinge width when the tunnel adopts articulated design.A quantitative comparative analysis is con-ducted on the effects of segment elongation and relative segmental rotation on the width of hinged design. It is found that the hinge width mainly depends on the relative segmental rotation.Additionally, the influences of fault dislocation amount, fault width,seg-ment length, displacement pattern curve, and hinged material on the width of hinged defense are analyzed. The results indicate that the hinge width is positively correlated with fault dislocation amount and segment length, while it is negatively correlated with fault width. The articulated defense width is calculated for three displacement patterns under the conditions of a fault width of 170 m,tunnel diameter of 13 m,dislocation amount of 0.2 m,and the hinge width of 8m,with a range between 4.11 mm and 16.12 mm.A comparison is made for the calculated hinge width by existing methods under the same conditions, and the results fall within this range. The research findings provide valuable references for the anti-dislocation design of cross-active fault tunnels with hinged joints.
