In order to restore the ecological environment of bare rock slopes in northwest Yunnan Province,an ecological grow-ing substrate which integrates multiple functions was developed. The growing substrate was composed of a structural layer and a surface layer, which contains ceramic particles, compound fertilizer, water retention agent and other materials. For the two layers,we designed orthogonal tests respectively, and selected germination rate and height as quantitative evaluation indicators for plant growth.According to the material ratio of each experimental group and observation results,a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model and a polynomial regression model were established to find the optimal composition under the given conditions, and the relation-ships between the influencing factors were analyzed. The results showed that the optimal formulation of the structural layer of sub-strate were 750 g/m2 of chaff,20 g/m2 of compound fertilizer,40 g/m2 of EPS granules,1.88 kg/m2 of ceramic granules,34.65 g/m2 of agglomerate and 84.6 g/m2 of water retention agent, while the optimal formulation of the surface layer were 9.24 g/m2 of compound fertilizer,9.12 g/m2 of water retention agent and 13.51 g/m2 of agglomerate. There was an interaction between the components of the substrate. There was a certain correlation between physical and chemical properties of the soil and the growth of the slope protection plants. The results can provide a theoretical basis and technical support for the further research and prepara-tion of the growing substrate and revegetation of high and steep rock slopes of alpine areas.
