Heterogeneous environmental regulation serves as a crucial policy tool to drive the harmonious development of water resources and socio-economic dynamics for high-quality growth. This study utilizes panel data from 11 provinces(cities)in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from2010 to2021.Based on the PSR model,we constructed an evaluation indicator system for"wa-ter resources-social economy"interactions.Employing a dynamic spatial Durbin model,we empirically examined the spatial spillover effects of heterogeneous environmental regulation on the coordination level of the"water resources-social economy"in-teractions.The results indicated that:① Different types of environmental regulations showed significant heterogeneity in their in-fluence on the coordinated development of"water resources-social economy"interactions.Command-and-control environmen-tal regulation showed an inverted"U-shaped"impact,while market-based regulation displayed a"U-shaped"trend.② En-vironmental regulations mainly exerted a spatial spillover effect on the coordinated development of neighboring areas through imita-tion,warnings,and pollution havens.Under the constraints of regional and industrial structural differences, they exhibited signifi-cant and diverse heterogeneous effects. Therefore, harnessing the positive implementation effects of various environmental regula-tions and continuously deepening their empowering effects on the coordinated development of"water resources-social economy"interactions are essential for achieving sustainable development in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
