Intercepted Sediment Amount by the Reservoirs in the Region from Hekouzhen to Tongguan of the Yellow River Basin
Finding out the actual amount of sediment retained by reservoirs is of important to understand the reasons why the incoming sediment of the Yellow River has been declined sharply in recent years. The first national water resources census results and statistical data from the reservoir management department were used to analyze the scope, the built time and the space distribution of the current reservoirs in the middle reaches of the Yellow River from Hekouzhen to Tongguan. Relying on the large-scale field investigating and statistical data analyzing, the following items of the reservoirs in this region were calculated and collected:the total deposition, the current situation of storage capacity loss as well as the actual sedi-ment retaining amount during 2007 to 2011. The result shows that there are 772 reservoirs with the total capacity of 8. 585 billion m3 which were built in the late 1950s to the late 1970s and 1990s in this region. The result also indicates that the annual reservoir sediment retaining amount of this region is 98. 2 million tons per year during 2007 to 2011.
