Dynamic Change of Ayakekumu Lake and Its Response to Glaciers Melting
The change of lake indicates the variation of climate and environment. Based on Landsat TM satellite data and New Water Index ( NWI) , this paper studied the areal change of Ayakekumu Lake and its impact factors in Qimantage area of Xinjiang Autonomous Region. The results show that the lake area is increased by 294.9 km2 from 1989 to 2010 and the increase rate is 48.7%. The fast increase period is from 2000 to 2006. The dynamic change of lake area is related with climate factors. Both air temperature and precipitation are increased during the 22 years. On the other hand, the areal change of lake is also related with glaciers melting. The glacier area decrease rate is 20%from 1989 to 2006. Similarly, the glacier area decrease rate is 7.2% from 2006 to 2011. The decrease rates of glacier reserves are 26.0% and 9.5% during the two periods of 1989 to 2006 and 2006 to 2011, respectively. This trend is coincidence with the increase of lake area.
