Research on the Impact of Low-Carbon Economic Transition on the Synergistic Effect of Pollution Reduction and Carbon Reduction in the Yellow River Basin
In order to enrich and deepen the theoretical research and practical exploration of low-carbon economic transformation and based on the theoretical analysis of the mechanism of low-carbon economic transformation to promote the synergistic efficiency of pollution reduction and carbon reduction,the paper set up a two-way fixed-effects baseline model and a mechanism effect model.Taking the synergistic efficiency of pollution reduction and carbon reduction as the explanatory variable,taking the low-carbon economic transformation as the core explanatory variable,taking the government's financial input,the level of marketisation and the public's concern for the environment as the moderating variables and based on the panel data of 99 sample cities in nine provinces(autonomous regions)of the Yellow River Basin from 2010 to 2020,the paper empirically analyzed the promoting effect of low-carbon economic transformation on the synergies of pollution reduction and carbon reduction in the Yellow River Basin,and conducted a series of robustness tests,heterogeneity tests and mechanism analyses.The con-clusions are as follows:Regardless of whether control variables are added or not,and whether the lag of core explanatory variables is taken into account or not,the empirical results of the two-way fixed baseline model and the results of the robustness test show that the low-carbon economic transition significantly promotes the synergistic efficiency of pollution reduction and carbon reduction in the Yellow River Basin;the test of heterogeneity shows that the low-carbon economic transition promotes the synergistic efficiency of pollution reduction and carbon reduc-tion in the upper reaches of the Yellow River Basin,the resources cities and the capital cities of the provinces more significantly.Mechanism analysis shows that improving the marketisation level,government's financial input,and public concern for the environment all play a posi-tive regulating effect on the synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon reduction,i.e.,they enhance the promotional effect of low-car-bon economic transformation on the synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon reduction in the Yellow River Basin.
