Effects of Different Pruning Methods on Growth,Fruit Characteristics and Yield of Beibei Pumpkin
In order to improve the planting level and benefit of Beibei pumpkin, the effects of single-vine,double-vine and three-vine pruning methods on the quality and yield of Beibei pumpkin were studied to screening suitable pruning methods by taking non-pruning cultivation as control. The results showed that using double-vine pruning and three-vine pruning methods resulted in harvest four days and three days earlier than the control, respectively, with better growth vigor, dense green leaves, less occurrence of diseases and insect pests, uniform fruit size and lower first female flower node positions of 7.3 nodes and 7.4 nodes, respectively, which had the fruit setting rates of 97.00%and 95.83%,respectively,and average single fruit weight of 0.40 kg and 0.38 kg,respectively. The yield of double-vine pruning was 2 502.06 kg per 667 m2,and that of three-vine pruning was 2 467.5 kg per 667 m2,which was significantly increased by 58.2%and 44.1%compared with the control, respectively. It is suggested that double-vine pruning was the best way for Beibei pumpkin production, which could promote early maturity of pumpkin, improve fruit setting rate, reduce deformed fruit rate and increase yield.Three-vine pruning could also be selected.
