Screening of New Thin-skinned Melon Varieties Suitable for Sightseeing and Picking
In order to better demonstrate and extend new varieties of thin-skinned melon with high quality,disease resistance and suitable for sightseeing and picking in urban agriculture in Beijing of watermelon and melon specialty production area,promote the upgrading of watermelon and melon varieties and improve the comparative benefits and competitiveness of Beijing watermelon and melon industry,a comparative study was carried out on five thin-skinned melon varieties suitable for sightseeing and picking in Beijing,including'Caihong No.5''Huabao''Qitian Shilixiang''Shengshi Jingshuang'and'Tangjin Huayue'.The plant growth,fruit diameter,fruit horizontal diameter,fruit type index,flesh thickness,soluble solids content,appearance,taste,fragrance and yield of each variety were measured.The results showed that the flesh thickness of'Shengshi Jingshuang'was 2.50 cm,and the soluble solids contents in the center and edge were 13.57%and 10.80%,respectively,whose sugar content gradient was small with soft and tender taste,and the weight of single melon was 0.62 kg,and the yield reached 3 584.84 kg per 667 m2.'Tangjin Huayue'came to the second,whose flesh thickness was 2.53 cm,the soluble solids contents in the center and edge were 13.67%and 8.53%,respectively,with aromatic flavor,and the weight of single melon was 0.70 kg,the yield reaching 3 469.20 kg per 667 m2.The comprehensive performance of the two varieties was good,which could be used as characteristic sightseeing and picking varieties for promotion and planting.
