Selection and Evaluation of Welsh Onion Varieties Suitable for Whole-process Mechanized Cultivation
The production of welsh onion is developing towards scale and whole-process mechanized cultivation gradually. To screen out welsh onion varieties suitable for mechanized planting in the central region of Gansu province,7 new welsh onion varieties were introduced.Taking the local cultivated variety'Kaman'as the control, the variety comparison experiments on the seedling emergence, botanical traits, disease resistance and yield were conducted. The results showed that the yield of 'Yixia' was the highest, reaching 4 489.4 kg per 667 m2 and followed with'Huihe No.8',with a yield of 4 472.9 kg per 667 m2,which were significantly higher than that of control and other varieties, respectively.'Huihe No.8'had a high seedling emergence rate(98.2%)and strong growth, with the highest plant height, the longest and the thickest bulb.'Yixia'was only inferior to'Huihe No.8'in plant height, bulb length and thickness, whose incidence rate and disease index of purple spot disease and downy mildew disease were the lowest. In summary, the two varieties of'Huihe No.8'and'Yixia'have good comprehensive traits and are suitable for whole-process mechanized planting in the central region of Gansu province during spring.
