Research on the fragment-impact resistance of high-performance fiber laminates
In order to obtain the fragment-impact resistance of high-performance fiber laminates, ballistic impact tests were designed and carried out.Detailed studies were conducted on the composite target plates made of nonwoven of aramid Ⅲ and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE)fibers with different laminated modes. The results show that:aramid Ⅲ fiber nonwoven demonstrates better shear resistance during fragment impact, while UHMWPE fiber nonwoven exhibits better tensile resistance;the composite target plates with 2∶2 alternate aramid Ⅲ and UHMWPE layering have superior anti-fragment impact performance compared to 3∶3,1∶1 and 4∶4 layering;the optimal anti-fragment impact performance occurs when the mass ratio of aramid Ⅲ to UHMWPE is 1∶2;target plates with aramid Ⅲ fiber nonwoven as the front face have better fragment-impact resistance performance than those with UHMWPE.The research results provide experimental and theoretical basis for the structural design of personal body armors.
