Review on Morphological Transformation and Bioremediation of Toxic Chlorine-containing Compounds in Soils
The accumulation of toxic chlorine-containing compounds in soils has been a serious issue due to their long existence and unpredictable risks posed to animals, plants and microorganisms in soils. However, the mechanism by which these chlorine-containing compounds affect soil organisms is still unclear. There are few reports on how to efficiently remediate soils contaminated by toxic chlorine—containing compounds, few studies reviewed the advantages and disadvantages of these remediation technologies. In this study, the morphological transformation, existing content and toxicity mechanism of different chlorine-containing compounds in soils were reviewed. Moreover, different bioremediation technologies for soils contaminated by toxic chlorine-containing compounds were analyzed, and appropriate solutions for improving remediation efficiency in case of contamination caused by these compounds in soils were proposed. The findings in this review provide new insights into the risk assessment and remediation of toxic chlorine-containing compounds in soils.
