To continuously improve air quality in Chengdu and strengthen control over motor vehicle emissions,in this research, the travel patterns of high-emission vehicles were analyzed in this paper based on a high-resolution motor vehicle emission inventory of Chengdu.Different traffic control scenarios in various low-emission area are set by considering different control periods, controlled vehicle types, and traffic control areas, with emission reductions and reduction percentages calculated. The results indicated that motor vehicles of China's Stage Ⅰ and Stage Ⅱ vehicle emission standards,as well as diesel trucks of China's Stage Ⅲ vehicle emission standards have relatively low travel frequencies within Chengdu urban areas. In Chengdu Ring Expressway and High-tech South Zone where motor vehicles of below China's Stage Ⅱ emission standards and diesel trucks of China's Stage Ⅲ vehicle emission standards are not allowed to drive through all day long, annual emission reductions for various pollutants, including NOx,CO,PM10,PM2.5,and VOCs,amounted to 8400,23 500,500,500 and 4900 tons, respectively, with corresponding reduction percentages of 13.0%,16.0%,20.0%,20.0%,and 13.0%,respectively.These findings suggested that designating low-emission areas to restrict the travel of Stage Ⅰ and Stage Ⅱ motor vehicles and Stage Ⅲ diesel trucks in the urban area of Chengdu can have significant emission reductions and effectively improve air quality.
