Study on shear test method of brick masonry along stepped cross-section
The failure mode of masonry structures under shear is characterized by the formation of stepped cracks. However, the current national standards do not include a shear strength test method for the failure of masonry structures along stepped cross-sections.Experimental research was conducted on the diagonal loading test method for sintered common brick masonry, based on similar studies and reference literature.A total of 45 standard shear specimens,15 large-scale diagonal loading specimens, and 15 small-scale diagonal loading specimens were prepared.By analyzing the statistical characteristics of the test results of the standard shear specimens and comparing the strength test results along stepped cross-sections with the calculated values of the strength formula for failure along through-seam sections in the code, recommended dimensions for the shear strength test along stepped cross-sections of common brick masonry were proposed.
