The Interpretation on Historical Materialism Made by Chinese Scholars in the Early 20^th Century//Wang Guiren The process of spreading Historical Materialism in China was not simply copying, but choosing, understanding and explaining it＇s theory continuously. Chinese scholars first interpreted it as ＂Economical Historical View＂, with obvious tendency of mechanical determinism. Due to the challenges in theory and practice, the interpretation had changed and ＂social reform＂ become the purpose and center of the explanation since the 1920s. Originally the theory of class struggle was not brought into the thought system, but it was the attention of Chinese scholars on personnel ＂will＂ and ＂struggle＂ during the process of interpreting social revolution that made it penetrate into historical materialism system, and eventually became the core content of it. So the re-understanding and re-interpreting on historical materialism was not denying but inheriting and developing when facing actual challenges.
