The Theoretical Contribution of Zhang Wentian's Survey in Shanxi and Shaanxi Provinces:A Case Study on The Notes of Departure and Return
The survey in Shanxi and Shaanxi Provinces conducted by Zhang Wentian during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression is quintessentially an achievement of the Communist Party of China in the history of social surveys.This survey,based on the principle of seeking truth from facts,made great achievement through scientific and meticulous work by delving deep into the grassroots cadres and peasant masses in the countryside.After concluding this survey,Zhang Wentian sent the report titled The Notes of Departure and Return to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.Guided by the fundamental principle of Marxist epistemology,Zhang carefully summarized the experience.He systematically and precisely illustrated the purpose,significance,methods,and other issues of the Party's survey research.Adhering to the spirit of seeking truth from facts and in pursuit of truth,this report proposed many innovative arguments and offered many insights with important theoretical and practical value.It greatly enriched the Party's theory of research and investigation.It holds significant meaning even today.
