Research Progress on the Correlation between Gut Microbiota and Depression
Depression is a severe and recurrent neuropsychiatric disease with high prevalence, disability and mortality, which imposes a heavy burden on national public health and economy.Depression has complex pathophysiology, and its pathogenesis has not been fully elucidated. In recent years, the role of the gut microbiota in health and disease has received increasing attention.Numerous studies have shown that gut microbiota plays a significant role in central nervous system regulation such as emotional behavior and cognitive function.By giving probiotics/prebiotics,improving eating habits and fecal microbiota transplantation can play a role in alleviating depression by regulating the disorder of gut microbiota. Therefore, this paper reviewed the relationship between gut microbiota-gut-brain axis and depression,as well as the current research progress on the main methods to improve depression based on the regulation of gut microbiota.
