Determination of Mineral Elements Content in Aspalathus linearis and Analysis of Drinking Safety
To study drinking safety of Aspalathus linearis and provide reference for processing and quality control of it,inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy(ICP-AES)was used to analyze the content of twelve minerals including K,Ca,Na,Mg,P,Fe,Zn,Mn,Cu,As,Pb,Cd in Aspalathus linearis and its drinking safety was discussed based on mineral dissolution rate affected by boiling time and boiling frequency. Results showed that the order of mineral elements in the two samples from China and South Africa was K>Na>Ca>Mg>P>Fe>Mn>Zn>Cu,order of mineral elements in the sample from Poland was Na>K>Ca>Mg>P>Fe>Mn>Zn>Cu and As,Pb,Cd were not detected in all three samples. The content of iron in three samples differed obviously(P<0.05)and no significant differences(P>0.05)were observed in the content of mineral elements(except iron)between samples from South Africa and Poland.By discussing the dissolution characteristics of mineral elements,it was found that Aspalathus linearis could be boiled twice at 90℃for 5 min.Under these conditions, the risk of excessive intake of Ca,P,Fe,Zn,Cu,Mn,As,Pb and Cd was low.Considering the availability and allowance of mineral elements intake,Aspalathus linearis can supplement a little of mineral elements and is a good drinking material.
