Effects of Physical Activities on Mental Health of Middle School Students in the Post Epidemic Era
Objective To investigate the physical activity and mental health status of middle school students in Guiyang after the COVID-19,and analyze the impact of physical activity on mental health,so as to provide reference for promoting the physical and mental health development of middle school students.Methods Using a stratified random whole group sampling method,a self-administered general condition questionnaire,a Chinese version of the physical activity questionnaire and the Mental Health Scale for Secondary School Students(MSSMHS)as instruments,a survey was conducted in September 2021 among some secondary school students in twelve secondary schools in Guiyang.Results The detection rate of mental health problems among secondary school students was 28.6%.The overall physical activity score of secondary school students was 2.49±0.69,and most of them were in the level of moderate intensity physical activity.The rates of mental health problems at moderate physical activity level(OR=0.50,95%CI=0.39~0.64;)and high physical activity level(OR=0.31,95%CI=0.22~0.43)were 50%and 31%times(p<0.01)higher than those at low physical activity levels.Conclusion There was a negative dose-effect relationship between physical activity and mental health.The higher the level of physical activity,the lower the risk of developing mental health problems.
