Ethical Issues in Teaching and Researching Applied Linguistics
Ethics is an issue that every researcher must always consider.This paper discusses ethical issues in the teaching and research of applied linguistics.Firstly,it gives some simple definitions of ethics,then it introduces the viewpoints of scholars in the field on the study of ethical issues,and then it explains,by the analysis of some questions,that researcher's understanding of ethical issues is related to the whole process of research.Finally,the importance of distinguishing between"facts"and"opinions"is proposed.The conclusion of this paper is that the ethical issue is not only concerned with fabricated data and plagiarism,but also involves the researcher's world view,outlook on life and values,his understanding of the research environment,the participants involved in the research,the purpose of the research,the method(s)adopted in the research,the manipulation of the research materials,and the analysis and interpretation of the results.
