The Intermediary Eyes:The Study of Translators'Behavior as a Group of Ethnic Chinese Sinologists Based on the English Versions of Sanguo Yanyi(1950-2000)
This essay attempts to make a survey of the various English documents from the ethnically Chinese Sinogolists in the English-spearking world concerning the translation and introduction of Sanguo Yanyi from 1950 to 2000 from the perspective of Translator Behavior Criticism theory.The findings suggest a translator's cultural identity exerts great influence on the dissemination and reception of this novel by means of rebuilding the western pedigree of Chinese literary history.The translators who embrace an international vision adopt cross-cultural comparison strategies to establish the literature value of the Chinese classical literature in the in-bound and out-bound paths.The study is useful for enhancing the international status of the Chinese classical literature and finding out the best translator models for Chinese culture to go global.
