Hidden risks and preventive measures of port operation in confined space
Various structures such as silos, storage tanks, boilers, pits, sewage treatment ponds(wells),underground or semi-underground power distribution rooms, tube wells(corridors)in the port are classified as confined spaces.A little careless management can easily lead to personal injury accidents such as fire, explosion, poisoning, and suffocation, during operations in the confined space of the port.In order to understand the hidden risks of port confined space operation,an investigation and analysis were conducted in a port corporation. The investigation found that the responsibility for production safety in confined space was not strictly implemented, education and training on the rules and regulations of confined spaces, safety risk knowledge, and emergency response skills were inadequate, and the lack of relevant safety knowledge were the main hidden risks of port operation in the confined space.Based on the research conclusion,it is proposed that risk prevention measures in confined spaces should be taken such as adopting a perfect management system, strictly implementing the responsibility of safety production, strengthening education and training on safety risks, emergency handling and rules, and improving the safety ability of personnel working in confined space.
