Study on variation characteristics of beach profile in west coast of Haikou Bay under typhoon storm surge
The beach on the west coast of Haikou Bay in Hainan Island is continuously affected by multiple typhoons in a short period of time.Based on the measured beach profile data and field investigation before and after typhoons, the response of beach to continuous typhoons was studied in the paper. The results showed that beach profiles eroded in general, the basic response characteristics of the beach profile to continuous typhoons were the erosion of the beach profile and the increase in beach slope steepness. The response characteristics of beaches at different locations to typhoons were different.A typical storm profile was formed after the post-storm action in the Holiday Beach area, and the distribution of underwater sand bars was obvious, which was absent in other sections. The typhoons'response intensity of the Holiday Beach was the least, while the local erosion of the beach profiles of the east side of Wuyuan Estuary and Changbin North Five Road was more serious.Surficial sediments at each beach were slightly coarsened and the sorting was weakened. The dynamic response mechanism of the beach under continuous typhoons is complex, influenced by nearshore geology and geomorphology, typhoon dynamics, and coastal engineering.
