Numerical simulation of motion response of rigid boom based on overlapping grid
Oil booms are commonly utilized as emergency equipment for oil spill accidents. The numerical simulation method is adopted to simulate the motion response of the oil boom and study its motion response mechanism, enhancing the performance of the oil boom. The traditional moving mesh method realizes the object movement through mesh deformation reconstruction, but it suffers from limitations in accuracy and stability. The overlapping mesh technique is suitable for simulating large-scale object motion without mesh deformation reconstruction. In this paper, the motion response of the oil boom was simulated based on the overlapping grid method and compared with the experimental results of previous physical models. The experimental results show that the motion response data of the current numerical simulation closely matched the measured data, with relative errors below 5%.The motion response of the boom was further studied and found that the oil containment efficiency of the boom with higher floating weight is worse. The result shows that the overlapping grid method can accurately simulate the movement of the oil booms, which can provide data support for engineering practice.
